Men’s Tennis- The Ragin' Cajun men's tennis team played three games this weekend in Texas.  Friday afternoon, the Cajuns defeated DePaul 4-3.  

DePaul (13-8) claimed all three doubles matches.

The Cajuns stepped it up in the singles, winning four out of the six matches. At the No. 2 singles slot, UL’s Javier Pulgar won 6-3, 6-2.  Pulgar improved to 12-1 this season and extended his personal win streak to eight straight. Piotr Olechowski, Neil Schneider and Yanick Mandl all won singles matches.  

The Cajuns continued their Texas trip as they remained in San Antonio to take on Texas-San Antonio, Saturday, March 28. They defeated UTSA 4-1, allowing the Cajuns to collect its eighth straight victory.

The Cajuns won two of the three doubles matches to earn the doubles point.  The Cajuns doubles tandems of Arlen Domoney and Bradley Bristow, and Pulgar and Schneider clinched the doubles point for UL Lafayette.

Louisiana won the next three singles matches, giving them a 4-1 win.

The Ragin’ Cajuns concluded their weekend in Texas on Sunday when they faced No. 47-ranked Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. UL Lafayette had the opportunity to claim its first win over a ranked opponent this season, but unfortunately came up short, losing 4-3.

The Ragin’ Cajuns gained the doubles point after claiming two of the three doubles matches.  The teams of Pulgar and Schneider, and Domoney and Bradley won

In singles play, only two of the UL Lafayette singles players won matches. Domoney won 6-3, 6-4. Mandl won 6-4, 6-7 (6-8), 6-3 for his second victory of the weekend at No. 6 singles.

Louisiana, now 11-5, will return to action next weekend when they compete in the Sun Belt Shootout Saturday-Sunday, April 4-5 in Murfreesboro, Tenn.

Women’s Tennis- The Ragin’ Cajun women’s tennis team traveled to Florida this weekend, playing UCF, FIU and FAU.

Friday morning, the Cajuns lost 4-3 to the UCF Knights.

The Knights won two out of the three doubles sets and grabbed a 1-0 lead into the singles portion of the match.

The Ragin’ Cajuns won three of the singles sets.  Angela Dangond won 6-3, 6-4, collecting her ninth singles victory and fifth at the No. 1 position. 

Julie Mazinova and Milou Israel also won, but 

the Knights (9-8) won the three other matches in straight sets, giving them a 4-3 match victory.  



The Cajuns lost 5-2 Saturday in Miami, as they continued their Florida weekend trip taking on No. 42 FIU.

FIU scored the first four points of the dual match, claiming the victory with three singles matches left to be played.

FIU was the fifth Sun Belt opponent the Cajuns have played this season. The loss drops the Cajuns to 3-2 against SBC teams.

The Ragin’ Cajuns wrapped up their weekend in Florida on Sunday, March 29 when they beat Florida Atlantic 4-0. This match was the final road contest of the 2009 regular season for Louisiana.

The Cajuns (8-10) won all three doubles matches, as well as three singles matches.

The three other singles matches did not finish due to rain.

The Ragin’ Cajuns return home and will compete in their final match of the regular season at Cajun Courts on Sunday, April 5 at 10 a.m., playing host to South Alabama.
