Volleyball- The UL Lafayette volleyball team competed in their spring tournament Saturday afternoon at Earl K. Long Gym. The Cajuns hosted Nicholls State, Southeastern La., University of Louisiana at Monroe and McNeese State.

The Cajuns split into two squads for the tournament, UL Red and UL Black, and each played in four different matches, consisting of two 25-point sets.

Of the six teams, four will play at a time on two courts, and the inactive teams will act as officials for the matches. The tournament was open to spectators at no cost.

According to, head coach Heather Mazeitis said this tournament this weekend is a wonderful opportunity of all of the volleyball athletes to get some playing time. With the team breaking up into two teams, it will give different players an opportunity to get in a lot of reps and really improve.

The Cajuns will travel to Houston this weekend to compete in another spring tournament hosted by the Texas Tornados volleyball club. The Cajun will compete against other collegiate teams including Baylor, Texas, Southern Methodist and Colorado.

The tournament should be an exiting event for the Cajuns because they will get to play against top teams, including three teams from the Big 12 and one from Conference USA.

The team is also playing in its own tournament, a “king of beach” style two-on-two beach volleyball tournament they have named “Queen of the Swamp.” Kendra Hall and Lindsay Brown lead the competition so far.
